Other that that I just added the DirectVR suggested 1680p resolution to my Graphics Card (guide for this in the VorpX menu) and disabled interleaved reprojection (I recommend doing this for all VorpX games, only async should be enabled). There is also the bug with a few transparent surfaces that apply effects to objects behind it (like broken glass) that makes everything behind it appear 2D, this occurs with pretty much all VorpX games I think but not a big issue in Portal and only happens a few times. The orientation coming out of portals is often incorrect but luckily it is consistent for the same portal location so you can just orient yourself accordingly before going in. To fix the Portal Gun I simply opened the console and ran viewmodel_offset_y "-9999" which makes it disappear, IMO it kinda helps with the immersion actually, there is no crosshair anyway in VR but you can just fire a few shots and use the trail as a guide. Portal Gun or sometimes stuff that gets picked up, FYI stuff like cubes in levels are not affected as they are technically not attached to the player, there are some rare exceptions though. The incorrect depth of objects attached to the player e.g. Solving the puzzles in VR is incredibly fun and the graphics are just breathtaking (seriously, for a 2011 game it is very close to the level of the new Valve VR games).ĭirectVR is incredibly reliable for the game and doesn't have to be rescanned after loading a new level. You do have to be very motion sickness resistant, I'm not entirely so I have to pause a few times but almost everything else is awesome! If I want to keep playing in VR I just continue Bioshock Infinite, I recommend it as well by the way, it's just a massive pain in the ass to try to win the "DirectVR FOV Scan" lottery. You won’t find the Meta Quest 3 reinvents the wheel when it comes to VR headsets, but it offers a few improvements to its predecessor’s design.Just started playing it (VorpX / DirectVR mode). They might be a portal to your favorite game like Asgard’s Warth 2, a floating media player for iHeart Radio, a trophy you won in Beat Saber, or a simple decoration you like the look of.īets of all your Quest 3 will remember where you’ve put your augments, so when you return to your playspace in the future everything will be just where you left it. We haven’t had much experience using them, but Meta says they can do a wide range of things. AugmentsĪugments are new mixed reality widgets you can use to decorate your home. This should make it a lot easier to slip on your headset and start playing in VR or MR. Plus, it can warn you when an object comes into this area. The Quest 3 can also use its new sensors and its AI to automatically detect the size and shape of your VR play space. Mixed reality is great on the Quest 3 (Image credit: Meta) Automatic play space mapping The overall effect is mixed reality that looks and feels much more exciting to be immersed in. Virtual objects can know when they hit a wall or another object in the space and react accordingly. It also has a new depth sensor which should make it easier for mixed reality software to understand the layout of your room. This footage is a lot brighter, less grainy and more colorful than what the Quest Pro’s single RGB camera could provide. For a start it’s full-color, relying on two RGB cameras placed on the headset’s front visor. Mixed reality is a lot better on the Meta Quest 3 than either the Quest 2 or the Meta Quest Pro. On top of this over 50 new games and apps will be launching on the Quest store before the end of the year with Quest 3 support (though it's not clear if this means they’ll be exclusive to the new headset, or just be playable on it).Įxclusive software is likely on the way, though with the Quest 2 still so popular we imagine Meta may want developers to support both systems – albeit giving Quest 3 players some worthwhile improvements to their version of the game or app. What’s more, Meta has said that over 50 of them are getting Quest 3 upgrades before the end of 2023 – be it to take advantage of the new and improved specs, or mixed reality support.
